Home Sweet Home - Starikov
I found this article – and the rest of the blog – something that resonated deeply with something that I have been chasing for a long time. Because yes, it would be easy enough to use VS Code to work day to day, and write my papers in Google Docs or Overleaf. But as it is put so nicely in the post
“an IDE built for everyone optimises you for average”
And so I am always a bit dubious of people who use stock VS Code. Sure, it works, but doesn’t a little bit of investment make it work … better? Because every time I set up an environment that hasn’t been built for me, I end up fighting against it, as either I need to actively think against my mental model, or spend so much time configuring it (because I am forcing it to do something it doesn’t want to do) that it seems like a waste.
The goal of an editor for me is to minimise the time between my brain and my filesystem; the same case I make for AI. If I can’t make my editor fit with my brain, then what is the point of using id.
