Why Write a Blog No One Reads

  • I sometimes think that all the stuff I put up here is just something I could put on LinkedIn or Twitter. But at the same time, the prospect of putting it on LinkedIn feels lame, and I hate the word, but performative. The platforming of social media requires people to change their expression to suit the platform, curating their own expressions to market themselves to the world. And we do that because of the feedback, because of the perceptions of being watched, because chasing likes and validation is something that feels nice.

And we talk about this all the time. Everyone says that Instagram is just people showing off the best of their life, and to this day, I am yet to find someone who speaks like they do on LinkedIn. Yet we all also yearn for authenticity – creators are applauded for authentic content, so what happens – we get inauthentic authenticity, the equivalent of saying your biggest weakness at a job interview is being too much of a perfectionist.

I want to avoid this at all costs, plus I think it’s fun to put ideas on a page.
So why not have this as a set of LinkedIn posts? It’s so I don’t fall into the rabbit hole of performing for praise or validation, and I get to say what I actually want to say.
